Day 1 on tour
Day 1:
It came and went, but was filled with the most extreme anxieties. The hours seemed to only pass by like minutes awaiting the arrival at the venue to meet up with the bands, but once we got there the biggest sigh of relief was passed over me. I greeted the boys with a giant pot of vegetarian spaghetti; it was more than enough to fill the bands up twice over. We all chowed down as the bands did their sound checks. Aimless wonders and unavoidable smiles filled the next hour until the show started. A couple of my friends showed up and this is where the dance party started. Dr.Manhattan then came on, and everyone was having a blast. Their set just seems to be getting better and better. They played a new song “Grogbase” with the lights off at the venue, but to the surprise of the crowd they each put on self-made head lights; these being punched out sunglasses with tiny flashlights attached to them. It really could be one of the coolest things I have even seen done at a concert. Their set continued on with smashing of porcelain figurines, TEQUILA!, and me having a blast with some of my best friends in the entire world. It was a great start to the next few days, and I’m sure that I will cherish every moment of it.
After Dman was done, the A.K.A’s played; they seemed to have a good fan calling for them being the odd band on this tour. They also are super nice, easy to talk to people. But it was the great Foxy Shazam! That indeed stole the show. I’ve seen them numerous times before at the Orpheum and other venues around the Tampa area, and they live performances never bore me at all. The chaos that they bring is sure to entertain anyone; with a sense of humor at least. Besides the bands rambunctious acts on stage, I think that the crowd is what really makes a foxy show. They always seem to be so unsuspecting, but when Eric Nally graces the stage they all seem to turn into crazed people who react to every move they do on stage. Just peering into their faces as their eyes are glued to the stage you can tell that these kids are happy. And that Foxy Shazam has indeed done what they came to the city to do.
After Foxy we all sat around for a bit, awaiting the departure for Tyler’s house. More funny conversations were said and sung, as well as an encounter with a rapping bum. But once we left it felt so nice to be in a home. There is something about Tyler’s house that just makes me so comfortable, not to mention the fresh scent of just cooked brownies that entered our noses as we walked through the door. The only bad news about last night was that we had to hit the road and not sleep at Tyler’s. So we got off sometime around 2 am, and instantly the sleepiness began to show among everyone. Sleeping in the seat of a van isn’t the most comfortable thing, but it was much better than a wood floor. We drove for nearly 5 hours until we ventured into a rest stop. We awoke to just get back on the road again, and are probably about an hour away from the venue. I’m excited to get outside and stretch my legs, possibly eat a freshly made meal. See yeah tomorrow.
