I came across this artist on the Daytrotter website this afternoon, but don’t let the name get you wrong. Grieves does just the opposite, he offers a collection of soulful beats that combine near perfectly with his unique voice. His new CD ‘88 Keys and Counting’ is a definite step up from his first release of ‘Irreversible.’ The sophomore release brings a more powerful and eerie close to home vibe. The image of Grieves also brings him in the forefront of this new wave of hip hop. The ‘Skate-rat’ look helps him transcend the barrier that most rappers are bound to. The closest artist I can see to him would be Atmosphere, but look as Grieves being his agnsty puppy-love filled younger brother. Enjoy.
